Across most of the global asset management industry, there is increasing recognition of the importance of measuring Environmental, Social, and Governance (“ESG”) performance as part of business or investment decision-making. This is not just down to mounting regulations demanding it, but many businesses are choosing to do so as part of an ESG strategy to build positive reputations among clients, investors, regulators, and employees.
To explore this further, Amicorp was delighted to host a webinar with a panel of industry experts, sharing valuable insights and pragmatic advice on keeping on top of the widening ESG landscape and how Fund Managers can best adapt and open up new opportunities.
Our panel was made up of Professor Gaizka Ormazabal from the IESE Center for Corporate Governance, who has done extensive research on sustainable investments; Yoko Kojima, Head of ESG at Mundi Ventures; Benne Brouwer, Associate at international law firm Jones Day, and Elia Nicolaou, Head of ESG at Amicorp Group.
Topics covered included:
- The need for ESG regulations – and the empirical evidence of the impact of these regulations on businesses and fund managers
- Insights into how General Partners (“GPs”) and Limited Partners (“LPs”) are managing the current EU’s Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulations (“SFDR”) – from pre-investment through to post-investment stages
- How Fund managers can factor ESG criteria into their investment decisions to mitigate risks and capitalize on opportunities
- Understanding the latest ESG regulations and frameworks that now require financial markets participants within the EU, for example, to document and report their sustainable economic activities on an annual basis
It ended with a Q&A session, where listeners posed questions about some of their pressing ESG-related concerns.
