Parikrma

The children at the Parikrma school come from 3 orphanages and 26 different slum communities across Bangalore. Although individually these children have very different histories, a background of neglect, complete lack of medical care, alcoholic parents and various sorts of abuse is common. Most alarming is that sometimes the children don’t get even one meal a day.

Most organizations supporting underprivileged children in India focus on providing basic literacy by teaching them to read and write. Parikrma differs because it provides comprehensive education. Actually, Parikrma goes beyond education and has created the unique Parikrma Model.

This model provides an end-to-end solution for each child. The model identifies four areas that make up a child’s life: Education, Nutrition, Health Care and Family Care. Parikrma calls this a child’s Circle of Life.

Parikrma ensures that every child completes school, receives two meals a day and undergoes regular medical exams. By providing community development in their neighborhoods, Parikrma also ensures that children have a healthy environment to return to after school. In completing the Circle of Life, they stimulate the child’s development and prepare him or her to take the steps necessary to earning a decent living, whether by pursuing special vocational training or higher university education.

Parikrma believes there should be no difference in the education provided to privileged children and those who are less privileged. Giving the less privileged the ability to compete on equal terms makes it possible to bridge the gap between the two groups.
