Erik Groeneveld is a graduate of the Utrecht School of Business in the Netherlands. In 1988 he obtained his license to practice as a registered accountant in the Netherlands. Erik began his professional career with Arthur Andersen’s Amsterdam office, and at the beginning of 1989 he transferred to Curaçao to establish an Arthur Andersen office there. In June 2002, Arthur Andersen’s Curaçao office joined the Ernst & Young Netherlands Antilles and Aruba practice.
On July 1, 2005, Erik was appointed country managing partner for Ernst & Young, Netherlands Antilles and Aruba, while at the same time admitting 3 new young partners. There his clients included offshore mutual funds, trust and corporate services companies, on- and offshore banks, hotels, wholesale and retail distribution companies in Curaçao, Bonaire, St. Maarten, Saba, St. Eustatia, Aruba and the British Virgin Islands. The governments of Curaçao, Bonaire, St. Eustatia and Aruba as well as the central Netherlands Antilles government were also clients. Erik was also involved in the creation of an integrated regional Ernst & Young practice, which now has 500 staff members and partners in offices in Trinidad, Barbados, Jamaica, the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba.
After serving nearly three and a half years as CMP for Ernst & Young and being in the public accountancy profession for almost 30 years, Erik chose to pursue a new direction by joining the Amicorp Group. Erik is now Amicorp’s chief audit and risk officer in Curaçao and has also been appointed a board member.
Erik is a member of the Dutch Association of Registered Accountants and until 2011 was a member of the Board of the Netherlands Antilles Association of Accountants. For over 10 years Erik has also been an active board member (treasurer) of Stichting Vormingscentrum Jeugdwelzijnswerk, a non-profit organization promoting the development of Antillean youth. Currently, Erik is a member of the audit committee of an associated organization, the Federation of Antillean Youth Organizations.
